Gamification In Learning & Development

In partnership with NHRD, we had the privilege of hosting a session on gamification and microlearning as part of NHRD Mumbai’s flagship conference, Dopamine. This one-and-a-half-day event, led by Mr. Lakshmanan (President, NHRD Mumbai Chapter) and Mr. Kasi Viswanath, focused on gamification across HR functions, including recruiting, learning, engagement, and rewards.

Our session, hosted by Kartik Mohla, Founder & CEO of InspireOne Technologies, featured a presentation by Pulkit Handa, Group EVP & Head Retail Training at YES Bank, and Sidhant Kashiva, Head Learning & Development at Mahindra Holidays. A panel discussion followed with both leaders and Sonali Majumdar, Head Learning & Development at Bennett Coleman & Company.

The session began with an exploration of how game-based microlearning can be effective when adopting a multidisciplinary approach. This involves integrating fields such as data science, learning content design, and behavioral psychology. Additionally, the discussion emphasized tailoring mobile microlearning experiences to the learner's tenure, experience, age, and other factors to enhance engagement and outcomes.

Sidhant from Mahindra shared how AI-powered microlearning platforms like Supernova, fueled by IBM Watson, aggregate organizational knowledge to provide leaders with actionable insights. By applying gamified microlearning strategies, first-time and mid-level managers received evidence-based, transparent analyses of their leadership strengths and development areas. This innovative approach enabled personalized learning experiences and strengthened leader buy-in.

Pulkit showcased YES Bank’s approach to blending digital and physical learning through YES School of Banking, where gamification and microlearning play a central role. He highlighted the importance of a structured process—launch, wait, learn, evaluate, and relaunch—for successful implementation. Pulkit also demonstrated YES Bank’s digital learning solution, powered by Master-O, as a live example of game-based microlearning.

The panel addressed key questions, including where to effectively leverage microlearning platforms in learning and development and how gamified microlearning can drive productivity and reduce attrition challenges, especially among frontline employees. They also discussed the need for continuous evaluation to ensure learning effectiveness and how personalized mobile microlearning enhances the learning experience. The session concluded with valuable insights and practical applications from practitioners across three industries, highlighting how organizations can leverage gamification and microlearning to achieve tangible results.
